EU

The EU and the European Financial Stability Facility (ESFS) prepare rules that are very important for the financial market’s role in sustainability developments.

The EU's three supervisory authorities for the European financial market – the European Banking Authority (EBA), the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) – work with sustainability in their specific areas and sector-wide in the Joint Committee of the European Supervisory Authorities.

The authorities issue guidelines prior to pending legislative initiatives, monitor market participants' management of sustainability-related risks in practice, and maintain a dialogue on sustainability-related matters with various stakeholders. The three authorities also publish reports, technical standards and guidelines related to sustainability matters.

FI participates actively in the authorities' work by joining their working groups and committees. FI is also represented in the authorities' highest decisionmaking body, the Board of Supervisors.
