Johan Almenberg is the director general of Finansinspektionen.
Johan Almenberg has been FI’s director general since 1 December 2025.
He has held positions at Sveriges Riksbank, the National Institute of Economic Research, and Finansinspektionen. Most recently he served as a state secretary at the Swedish Ministry of Finance. Johan Almenberg holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Stockholm School of Economics.
Johan Almenberg is the chair of the Expert Group on Public Economics. He is a member of the Board of Supervisors of the European Banking Authority (EBA), the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB) and the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). He is also a Bureau member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Committee on Financial Markets.
