Nordea passed a decision today to move its head office to Helsinki. The bank represents a large part of the Swedish financial market, but it is too early to say how the decision will impact Finansinspektionen’s supervision.
"We will maintain a dialogue with Nordea and the other Nordic countries about how the change will be implemented. What is most important is for the bank to have stable, sound operations, and this applies regardless of where its head office is located," says FI Director General Erik Thedéen.
"EU regulations make it possible for banks to conduct cross-border operations within the EU. Our assignment is to promote financial stability and consumer protection regardless of where the operations are conducted," says Erik Thedéen.
